McAfee’s Benchmark is named in honour of the intrepid McAfee brothers, who carried out the original 1773 survey of what became Leestown, Kentucky and the site of the Buffalo Trace Distillery.
Although it’s our entry-level priced bourbon, it certainly warrants some attention. Whilst being both flavourful and easy to drink, it’s a good all-round addition to any back bar, excellent for making great cocktails or fantastic simply served with a mixer.
It has a deep amber colour and the nose is sweet, with lots of citrus. The body is medium in texture, offering distinguished caramel notes, a hint of chocolate, cinnamon and some orange. The traditional spiciness is played down, but there’s a good amount of heat on the finish.
