White Dog is the affectionate name given to un-aged whisky or “Moonshine”.
In Kentucky, Buffalo carved a pathway followed by America’s first explorers. Those brave pioneers distilled whisky using traditional methods and drank it right off the still. This raw distillate was clear, un-aged and had a hint of sweet corn. Only later was it discovered that this spirit was perfect for ageing – creating what we know today as fine Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
Keeping with the traditions of America’s founding fathers, the Buffalo Trace Distillery continues to offer this raw, clear, un-aged and high-proof distillate right off the still. Using a different recipe of grains or mash bills for each.
Buffalo Trace produces three types of White Dog:
Mash #1: Sweet aroma with a slight burn. The corn coats the tongue with a generous layer of oil and vanilla.
Rye Mash: Seriously spicy with a corn sweetness and lingering earthiness.
Wheated Mash: A smooth start with a bouquet of wheat bread and subtle spiciness.
